Sinn Féin MEP Matt Carthy has said that it is now more important than ever that the Irish Government to stands strong against any movement in Brexit talks before an agreement is reached which protects the all-Ireland economic, social and political framework.
Carthy was speaking after it was reported that the EU and Britain had reached an agreement on a Brexit financial settlement.
Matt Carthy said:
“It is now more important than ever that the Irish Government stands strong against any movement in Brexit talks before an agreement is reached which protects the all-Ireland economic, social and political framework
“The Irish Government has a major responsibility to defend and uphold the Good Friday Agreement in all its parts and to ensure that the British Government does not re-impose a hard border on the Island of Ireland.
“Our Government must not be bought off with vague assurances in order to allow wider talks to proceed.”
